Any player, if they have enough [gold](Gold) may found a new city and become its mayor.
The price of a new city goes up with the number of cities in game, but down as the size of those cities grows. This is intended to allow more cities as more players play the game.

A city's mayor has a few privileges in their city.
The mayor:
* owns the town square, located in the center of the town
* has no restrictions to the number of places they can name in their city
* can select city upgrades when their city reaches growth thresholds
* can decide to restrict settlement to a custom list of players
* can decide to restrict runestone styling to a custom list of players
Moreover, a mayor gets a (gold](Gold) subsidy of 0.1% of their city's [treasury](Treasury) at every [game tick](Game tick), based on how well their
city is doing.

A mayorship is tradeable. If mayorship is not for you, you can offer your city for sale on the [marketplace](Marketplace).
