Farming in one of the ways one can obtain food in Townforge.

Farming requires an [agricultural](Agricultural) building, and is done by sowing and harvesting either [vegetables](Vegetables) or [grain](Grain).
Sowing and harvesting can only done at the right time of year. See the [farming calendar](Farming calendar) for details.
Every agricultural building has a given level of nutrients for both crops. Growing vegetables depletes vegetables nutrients, while growing grain
depletes grain nutrients. The longer a crop is left to grow, the more nutrients levels for that crop will deplete.
In a year where no grain is grown, vegetables nutrients recover yearly, and vice versa. If nothing is grown in a given year,
both nutrients levels recover.
The higher the nutrients levels for a crop are, the more bountiful the crop will be.
Nutrients may not recover in a city under the influence of a bad soil conditions special event.
Temperature has a direct influence on crop growth: crops will only grow if the temperature is over a threshold, and will receive frost damage
if it goes below another threshold. Remember than geothermal heating, altitude and southernly orientation have an effect an the temperature
in a given place.
Crops will grow fastest after sowing, and slower as time passes. The current state of an agricultural building's crop can always be seen in
the harvest screen.
