Some species of mushrooms can grow in Greenland.
Mushrooms start growing in autumn but will die as soon as the temperature drops
to 0 or lower.
They will also die off in the new year.
There are 3 species of mushrooms known so far:
- Snowcap
Snowcaps have adpted to snowy conditions and will multiply quickly when temperature
lies in a narrow range between 0⚬C and 2.5⚬C. Their red caps will pop out of the snow
cover but they will die if the temperature drops.
- Rockweb
Rockwebs grow on stone, not trees as snowcaps and stouthorns do. They are lichen
type growths with lots of filaments. They cannot be consumed as is.
- Stouthorn
Stouthorn grow slower than snowcaps and rockwebs. They're found near trees and
look like small trumpets. True to their name, their flesh is more resistant than
most other species of mushrooms.
The type of mushroom to be found in any place is influenced on the wood type potential
of that place. Moreover, snowcap and stouthorn mushrooms grow quicker in areas with
more wood, while rockwebs grow quicker in areas with more stone.
Mushrooms can be found on empty land, where anyone, not only the land owner, may
pick them.
Some mushrooms have utility in creating lightsource powders.
Later, they will be usable to create other items such as medicine, as well as serve
as an ingredient in food recipes.
